There are so many benefits to having a garden at a school. Back in the fall the kids designed their own outdoor classroom including a garden where they are now growing beans, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, strawberries and garlic. They built the garden beds themselves and take such pride in the work that they do outside. Just before we left for winter break, we picked the lettuce and made a salad. They are learning so much about science in a way that has them excited and eager to learn more. This garden is teaching our students about planning, building techniques, how plants grow, healthy food choices and working together. I would call that a great success.
